Course code: BP7901: Business Issues in Sustainability
NBS has launched a new interdisciplinary PhD elective course BP7901: Business Issues in Sustainability from academic year 2015-16. The aim of this course is to help PhD students develop research interests across functional domains in the area of business sustainability.
The course is taught by several NBS faculty from across divisions such as Strategy Management & Organization, Operations, Finance, and Accounting. The course also takes advantage of visiting international professors and researchers who give talks under the Research Seminar Series. The talks focus on current research issues in the following topics: strategies and governance for sustainability, organizational behavior & sustainability, sustainable operations, sustainable supply chains, environmental performance management, policies for carbon control, financial valuation of sustainable firms, accounting and sustainability reporting.
A key component of the course is a term paper on business sustainability that students write under the supervision of an NBS faculty. It is presented towards the end of Term 3 in a half-day workshop to all the instructors of the course. The paper can eventually lead to publications and research output on corporate sustainability in various top business journals. In the coming year, NBS hopes to get IGS students to participate in this course.
