Nanyang Business School's Centre for Business Sustainability, in partnership with the Singapore Technologies Endowment Programme (STEP), organised the Ecosperity Young Leader’s Dialogue (YLD) 2017 at the Nanyang Technological University campus in June this year.

The YLD, a student-centric event which aims to instil leadership qualities in today’s young leaders, is under the umbrella of the main Ecosperity Conference, organised annually by Singapore’s Temasek Holdings.

The theme for this year’s YLD was ‘Tomorrow Starts Today – Securing Our Sustainable Future in Asia’. It showcased how companies can implement sustainable business practices for the benefit of the environment. The week-long Young Leader’s Dialogue kicked off on 4 June with presentations and panel discussions by academics, government and private organisations.

A total of 90 young student leaders from top universities in ASEAN and Japan, Mongolia, India and China, participated in this event.

Professor S. Viswanathan, Director of the Centre for Business Sustainability and Associate Dean (Research), initiated the conference with a talk on climate change and how businesses combat climate change through their practices. A panel discussion on social sustainability challenges faced by businesses followed with representatives from Singtel and CapitaLand sharing their experiences.

Speakers from the National Environment Agency (NEA) and top consulting firms such as Accenture, Frost & Sullivan were invited to share their viewpoints on Asia’s imperative on business sustainability. In addition, individual sessions by Buckman Laboratories, PM Haze and Made in Africa Initiative captivated the young leaders with their respective sharing on organisational challenges and experiences in promoting sustainability in business.
