Nanyang Enterprise Risk Management

Programme Overview

In the volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) world of today, characterized by constant disruptions and unpredictable challenges, the role of enterprise risk management (ERM) becomes even more critical an​d complex than before. Having a strong grasp of ERM and business continuity management (BCM) are essential for managing risks, creating value and maintaining the long-term growth and sustainability of an organization.

The Nanyang Enterprise Risk Management programme (Nanyang ERM) enables management and risk executives to gain a more holistic view of risk throughout the organisation, so they can better align their business model and strategies to mitigate risk and achieve better returns.

The curriculum of the Nanyang ERM is specially designed in collaboration with The Risk Management Society (RIMS) to equip course participants with the 5 core competencies which will deepen their knowledge and skills in ERM concepts, processes, tools and frameworks. These core competencies are aligned to the 5 domains of the RIMS-Certified Risk Management Professional (RIMS-CRMP©)​ exam:

  2. Designing Organizational Risk Strategies
  3. Implementing the Risk Process​
  4. Developing Organizational Risk Competency
  5. Supporting Decision Making

    *About RIMS-CRMP© Certification:
    RIMS is a global professional body dedicated to advancing the practice of risk management across industries. The RIMS-CRMP credential defines the highest achievement in risk competencies as it is the only risk management certification in the world to be accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and complies with the ISO/IEC 17024:2012 standard for certification bodies.     Nanyang ERM Programme complements other study resources needed to prepare for the RIMS-CRMP© examination. Participation in the programme helps but does not guarantee a pass in the RIMS-CRMP© certification examination.

  4. Programme Structure​

    Developed in consultation with prominent risk management practitioners and aligned with the examination domains of RIMS-CRMP, Nanyang ERM programme combines the best knowledge, management tools and frameworks from academia and industry (e.g. COSO framework and ISO 31000 Risk Management), to provide the best value to the participants.

    The programme consists of three modules of 2 to 3 days each. The outline and learning objectives of each module can be found in the programme broc​hure.

    While it is recommended to enrol for the full programme, each module can be taken independently, to suit the schedule and objectives of participants.

    Participants can choose to apply for the full programme (3 modules) or on a per-module basis.

    SkillsFuture Credit
    Singapore Citizens, aged 25 and above, and self-sponsored, may use their SkillsFuture Credit to defray part of the net course fee. Participants can submit their SkillsFuture Credit claims by logging in Please click here for “How do I submit a claim for Skillsfuture credit?” and other FAQs.

    Participants do not need to contact Skillsfuture or SkillsConnect for funding prior to course registration. NTU will handle the funding paperwork for both self and company-sponsored participants. Participants will be invoiced the net amount after funding and GST.

    El’fred is an Associate Professor of the Accounting Division at
    Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University.

    El'fred has taught courses in assurance, corporate governance, enterprise risk management and ethics at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has been a winner of the Teaching Excellence Award in the Accounting Division. His research interests include corporate governance, assurance, behavioral and ethical issues. He has published in many reputable accounting and ethics journals such as the Abacus, Accounting & Business Research, Accounting & Finance, Accounting Horizons and so on.

    El'fred's professional involvement and contributions include serving as a Judging Panel Member of the Best Annual Report Award, a Member of the Best Managed Board Award Shortlisting Committee, the ISCA Auditing and Assurance Standards
    Committee, the ISCA Corporate Governance Committee Member, the ISCA Ethics Committee and the SID Audit Committee Chapter Publications Sub-Committee. He has also served as an Inspector and Technical Reviewer for the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Singapore Qualification Programme

    Kia Hong is a senior lecturer at Nanyang Business School (NBS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU). He is actively involved in curriculum and pedagogical development in the risk management and assurance courses that he teaches in the bachelor and master degree programmes. His teaching accolades include NBS Accountancy Teacher of the Year 2015 and NBS
    Teaching Excellence Award 2015 for Accounting Division. He holds a Master of Science (Marketing) from NTU where he was awarded the Dean's Honors’ List. Before joining NTU, Kia Hong was an audit partner of a public accounting firm and had worked as chief executives of companies in Singapore and South Korea. His roles included formulating strategies to meet business objectives, enterprise risk management and leading teams to ensure seamless operation of the businesses.

    Kia Hong is a co-examiner for Singapore Qualification Programme for the business value, governance and risk module. He is a member of ISCA’s Auditing and Assurance Standards Committee and ISCA’s investigation and disciplinary panel. Kia Hong contributes articles regularly to professional journals and the local
    media and is a regular speaker at major conferences organised by professional bodies.​
