Course Overview

This course will equip you with skills and knowledge to excel in the domain of business analytics. You will gain strong business sense as well as an appreciation of insights from data analysis courses focusing on AI and big data. You will learn to play a critical role in guiding businesses through today’s environment of digital disruption, through analysing and utilising data to drive digital transformation, redefine the customer experience and deliver profitable outcomes in business. 

The credits you earn after completing this course can be transferred​ towards the MSc Business Analytics degree.​

  • Course: Analytics Principles and Strategies
    Analytics, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence are transforming business, social and governments’ way of work and way of life. This course will show how important ideas and concepts were applied in real world applications to impact the way we live and work. With the focus on real world problems and the circumstances and issues surrounding them, this course will re-establish the original objective of Analytics, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence – to serve humans and society.
  • Course: Analytics Technology in Business
    Technological advancement renders both opportunity and shortfall for business organisations. An appreciation of analytics and machine learning can often turn these shortfalls into opportunities and transform a business. The ability to catch up with technology is often the key for businesses to stay relevant. This course introduces the concept and technology behind analytics and how businesses can embrace this in their operations. You will gain an understanding of the fundamentals of analytics and machine learning deployed in business operations. Using programming language and other tools to perform analysis, you  will learn to process different types of data to perform suitable analysis according to your problem statement.

    3. Construct machine learning solutions for a given problem.

  • Course: Analytics and Big Data in Business 
  • Course: AI in Finance and Enterprise
    An introductory course, this is ideal if you are interested to learn how to manage data, conduct business analytics programmatically, create Artificial Intelligence (AI) models to automate enterprise processes and create predictive models to increase profitability or returns. 

    You will gain a broad understanding of how to manage data, the process of preparing data for analysis, basics of analytics, and using AI to automate financial and enterprise analysis processes. You will be able to write customised solutions to make informed enterprise and finance decisions and integrate statistical libraries for data analysis. This module will provide you with individual hands-on practices to hone your coding skills, . utilising R and Python language as the medium of learning because it is one of the most in-demand coding languages and its user-friendly syntax is well suited for beginners. You will also utilise modern development tools to turn information into insights, including Keras’ Deep Learning model, Google Brain TensorFlow, Hadoop, Spark and Google Cloud.

    Learning Outcomes
    1. Write code to solve Finance and Enterprise problems programmatically by creating AI models using R, Python, Keras, Hadoop, Spark and API.
    2. Manage data to sufficiently derive, communicate analytics outcomes and eventually create AI models in enterprise and finance.
    3. Implement a simple system in Google Cloud, including engineering work in implementing AI models in Finance and Enterprise.
  • Pathway to NBS Master's Programmes

    Participants who attain an NBS MiniMastersTM may choose to stack it towards a Full NBS Master’s programme. Upon meeting admission requirements, participants may choose the following pathway:​

    Accreditation of courses completed under the NBS MiniMastersTMto aFull NBS Master’s programmewill be subject to the current accreditation policy:

    a. Transfer credits of up to 12 AUs of courses upon successful admission into aMaster’s programme

    b. The grade obtained for the course must be at least a C+ (subjected to change for specific Master’s programme)

    c. The validity period for exemption/ credit transfer of a course is five years from the date of award of the course as reflected in the official result slip/transcript

    d. The course must not have been used for exemption/credit transfer into another programme

    Admission to Full NBS Master’s programme

    Participants have to meet all required admission standards of the selected Master’s programme.


    Accreditation of courses completed under the NBS MiniMastersTM to a Full NBS Master’s programme will be subject to the current accreditation policy:

    a. Transfer credits of up to 12 AUs of courses upon successful admission into a Master’s programme

    SkillsFuture Credit​
    In addition to the above funding, Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above and self-funded may use their SkillsFuture Credits to defray part of the net course fee after funding.

    Participants who wish to use their SkillsFuture Credit can download the SFC Claim form here​. Please submit the SFC claim form via email to nbs_minimasters@ntu.edu.sg ​at least 1 month before course start date.​​​

    Funding Requirements
    - Participant must achieve a minimum of 75% attendance for the course.
    - Participant must complete a written assessment on the final day of the course

    Participants do not need to contact Skillsfuture or SkillsConnect for funding prior to course registration. NTU will handle the funding paperwork for both self and company-sponsored participants. Participants will be invoiced the net amount after funding and GST.​

    Dr Nguwi Yok Yen

    College of Business (Nanyang Business School) - Division of Information Technology & Operations Management


    Yok-Yen is a Senior Lecturer of Data Analytics in College of Business (Nanyang Business School). She obtained her BEng(Computer) from The University of Newcastle, Australia before completing her PhD in Computer Engineering at Nanyang Technological University. Apart from that, she also received ACCA accountancy qualification.

    She accumulated her tertiary teaching experience since 2006. She has taught students at undergraduate and graduate levels as well as supervised honors and research students. In terms of research, she enjoys discovering the intelligence within data and shaping the right algorithm for data analysis. She has studied data of different forms and published work in the domains of intelligent transport system, cognitive based emotion recognition, health and psychology informatics. Her work has appeared in Expert System with Applications, Neural Computing & Applications, Journal of Technology and Behavioral Science as well as Connection Science.

    Mr Chew Chee Hua, Neuma

    Neumann Chew was previously Principal (Analytics) at U.S. based Analytics software company SAS Institute, where he proposed and developed Analytics solutions for clients across various industries and government agencies.


    He had also worked as Statistician, Data Scientist, Research & Statistics Director, and had taught in universities and corporate training programs in Dubai, Singapore, Sydney, and Vietnam. In 2003, he started his first company while waiting for his large scale statistical simulation experiments to be completed for his thesis in Statistics. That's when he developed his first customized Data Mining models for his clients and witnessed the potential and value of Analytics. This is what Statistics and Analytics should be - solutions to real business problems, not just abstract mathematical problems.

    Thereafter, he translated models and formulas from Analytics/ Machine Learning/ Data Mining/ Data Science/ Artificial Intelligence research papers into code and application software for his clients.

    Currently, he is teaching Business Analytics and finishing his textbook to consolidate more than 15 years of teaching and best-practice first-hand Analytics problem-solution consulting for his students.​

    Dr Teoh Teik Toe
    College of Business (Nanyang Business School) - Division of Information Technology & Operations Management​


    Teik Toe is currently the Senior Lecturer in NBS, NTU teaching Business Analytics and AI subjects. He is also the Academic Director for NBS Master of Science in Business Analytics. He has more than 25 years of research experience including Big Data, Deep Learning, Cyber-security, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Software Development. He also has more than 15 years of teaching experience in AI, Data Science and Analytics, Statistic, Business, Finance, Accounting and Law.
    He has obtained PhD in Computer Engineering from NTU, Doctor of Business Administration and MBA from University of Newcastle, Master of Law from NUS, LLB and LLM from UoL.
    He is also the chartered holder of CFA, ACCA, CIMA, Chartered Accountant Singapore and Chartered Accountant Malaysia. He is also a member of Mensa.
