FAQ - Nanyang Professional MBA

    Overview & Programme

  1. 1. What is the PMBA programme structure like?
    Classes are held on alternate weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) for a duration of 18 months, starting in July and ending in December the following year. Participants will go through a total of 19 modules ranging from business fundamentals, strategic insights and experiential learning.   2. 2. How are classes conducted, and where are they held?
    Classes are conducted fully in English and physical attendance for all modules is required. This will facilitate learning through discussions and enhance networking opportunities among participants. Prior to each class/module, you may be provided preparation materials/case readings that can be availed online.

    Classes are held at the NTU Novena Campus (Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine).
  3. 3. What are the class timings?
    Classes are held from 9am to 6pm. In addition, participants should cater additional time outside of classes to prepare for case discussions and individual or group presentations/assignments.
  4. 4. Are there any breaks during the programme?
    Class breaks are in June and December.
  5. 5. Are meals provided during class days?
    Lunch and tea breaks will be provided.
  6. 6. Are there specialisations available?
    There is no specialisation for the PMBA. The curriculum is fixed and similar to a general management MBA.
  7. 7. How are participants assessed/graded?
    Participants are assessed through a variety of methods such as class participation, case discussions, group presentations, in-class tests and take home assignments. You will be advised on the mode of assessment at the beginning of each module.
  8. 8. Are PMBA participants eligible to apply for double degree or exchange programmes?
    Double degree programmes are applicable only to full-time MBA participants. However, PMBA participants may apply for exchange programmes at their own discretion and will be subject to university approval.
  9. 9. Can I switch from the PMBA to the full-time Nanyang MBA (and vice versa)?
    No, as both have different programme structures.
  10. 10. Is there career support for PMBA participants?
    Participants may request for support from the NBS’s Graduate Studies Career Development Office (GSCDO). Our GSCDO page explains the nature of services available.

    Admissions

  1. 1. What are the entry requirements to the PMBA?
    To be eligible to apply to the PMBA, candidates must possess:
    1. A Bachelor’s degree
    2. Minimum 3 years of full-time work experience
    3. A competitive Executive Assessment, GMAT or GRE score
    4. If English was not the medium of instruction used at the undergraduate level, a TOEFL or IELTS score is also required
  2. 2. Is there an age limit to apply to the programme?
    There is no age limit. PMBA participants typically possess an average of 8.5 years’ work experience, and it ranges from 4 years to 16 years.
  3. 3. How many intakes do you have per year?
    There is one intake per year which commences every July.
  4. 4. How long can I defer my acceptance if I am accepted into the programme?
    Deferments are reviewed on a case-to-case basis. Admissions are usually accorded.
  5. 5. There are a few application deadlines/rounds for each intake – are any of the deadlines/rounds more competitive than the other?
    Each round is equally competitive. In addition, we practice rolling admissions meaning that the admissions committee will commence assessment once a complete application is received and will not wait until the deadline to do so.

    Application

  1. 1. How do I apply?
    Apply via our online application portal by creating an account here. Only online applications are accepted.
  2. 2. To be eligible for consideration for this academic year’s intake, when must I submit my application by?
    Please refer here for the application deadlines for this academic year. Applicants are encouraged to submit a full application before each deadline.
  3. 3. What documents are required to support my application?
    You will be required to upload/provide:
    1. Resume (preferably no more than 3 x A4 pages)
    2. Executive Assessment (EA), GMAT or GRE score report (A TOEFL or IELTS score report is required if your undergraduate degree was not taught in English)
    3. Degree Scroll(s) and Transcript(s) of Academic Records (in English) from each university attended (Notarised translated copies are required for non-English documents)
    4. Professional Membership Certificates (if applicable)
    5. Scanned copy of Passport / NRIC (colored)
    6. Passport-Size Photo (digital)

    In addition, you will need to:
    1. Complete three compulsory admission essays (plus one optional essay);
    2. Nominate two (2) professional recommenders – upon nomination, an online referee report form will be sent to them for their completion
    3. Pay a S$100 Application fee (via VISA or Mastercard) upon submission of application.
  4. 4. Will my application be processed without the application fee?
    An application without proof of payment will not be processed.
  5. 5. How can I check the status of my application?
    Successfully submitted applications will receive an automated email notification. It will take between 4 to 6 weeks to review your application. You may re-login to your account to check your application status.

    All shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an admissions interview. You will be notified via e-mail if you have been shortlisted.
  6. 6. Will my application be reviewed if I did not provide all the documents required?
    Evaluation will commence upon receiving all supporting documents. This ensures we have a holistic overview and fair assessment of each candidate. Incomplete applications will not be processed.
  7. 7. What are the Executive Assessment (EA), GMAT and GRE?
    These are standardised tests to assess candidates’ aptitude and readiness for advanced study in business and management.

  8. 8. Is there any preference between the EA, GMAT or GRE?
    NBS does not have any preference towards a specific test over the others, however candidates are advised to attempt for a test that best corresponds to their professional experience. For example, the EA is designed in mind for experienced candidates, and as such should only be attempted by applicants with more work experience.
  9. 9. What is the minimum EA, GMAT or GRE score required for the application?
    All applicants’ profiles are considered holistically. A candidate with a high score may not necessarily be guaranteed admission; likewise, we do not rule out candidates with lower scores.
  10. 10. Can I submit an application first and furnish the EA, GMAT or GRE score at a later date?
    Yes. Please indicate your test date in the application so that the admissions committee can follow up with you. We will start assessing your application once we receive your scores (assuming all other supporting documents are provided).
  11. 11. How long are the scores valid for?
    EA, GMAT and GRE scores are valid for 5 years from the test date.
  12. 12. If I took the EA, GMAT or GRE more than once, which score will you consider?
    We will consider the highest valid score for our assessment.
  13. 13. What is the institution code for sending my official scores?
    For EA, please select “Nanyang Business School – MBA, Part Time”
    For GMAT, our institution code is V24-ZV-75
    For GRE, our institution code is 3802
  14. 14. Is TOEFL or IELTS mandatory? Can I request to be exempted?
    TOEFL or IELTS is mandatory if English is not your native tongue or if the medium of instruction for your undergraduate degree was not exclusively in English. However, an applicant may request for exemption (subject to the university’s approval) if he/she is a citizen or permanent resident of a country where English is the official language, or has worked in an English-speaking environment for a significant period of time.
  15. 15. If I am required to take the TOEFL or IELTS, what are the acceptable scores?
    The minimum score required for TOEFL is 100. For IELTS, the minimum score is 6.5.
  16. 16. Who can I nominate as my two recommenders?
    Recommenders can include your immediate supervisors (both past and present), university lecturers and/or business associates (for self-employed applicants only).
  17. 17. What can I expect at the admissions interview?
    The admissions interview is an opportunity for us to get to know you and understand your expectations from the programme and vice-versa. The interview is generally conducted by panel comprising of faculty and members of the admissions committee.
  18. 18. If I am a re-applicant, how do I apply?
    If you were previously declined admissions, you may re-apply for the next intake. Please indicate in your application form that you are a re-applicant. You will be required to fully complete an application as per a new applicant.
  19. 19. Will it affect my chances of admission if I am a re-applicant?
    The admission team will review your new application alongside your previous one to see if you have demonstrated growth since your last application. Candidates who are successful in the re-application process have demonstrated growth, both personally and professionally.

    Fees & Scholarships

  1. 1. How much is the tuition fee?
    The tuition fee is S$65,000 (before GST) for the entire programme.
  2. 2. If I am successfully admitted to the programme, do I have to pay the full tuition fee upfront?
    Acceptance of an admission offer must be accompanied with an enrolment fee ofS$10,000 (inclusive of GST, non-refundable) to confirm his/her place in the programme. The balance of the tuition fee will be payable in 5 installments throughout the duration of the programme.
  3. 3. Are scholarships available for PMBA candidates?
    Yes. Scholarships are partial, and are awarded on a competitive and merit basis. Please click here for the full list of PMBA scholarships.
  4. 4. How do I apply for a scholarship?
    You can apply within your application form itself. A scholarship essay is also required. Ensure your eligibility for the scholarship that you intend to apply, and submit your application before the scholarship deadline.
  5. 5. When will scholarship results be announced?
    As the scholarship selection is a separate process, scholarship results may or may not be announced together with the admission offer.
  6. 6. Can I apply for more than one scholarship?
    Yes, however successful scholarship recipients will only be awarded one scholarship.
  7. 7. Do NTU alumni enjoy a special rate for the tuition fee?
    NTU alumni who are successfully admitted to the PMBA are entitled to a 10% alumni subsidy (i.e. 10% discount).
