An equal world is an enabled world

Published on: 06-Apr-2020

In conjunction with International Women's Day, the Nanyang MBA Women in Business Club organised "Balance for Better" – a dialogue session aimed at helping women build a plan for success.

The panel had a diverse mix of accomplished leaders from corporate and academia – NBS Dean Professor Christina Soh, Advisory Board member Mr Vivek Nath and alumna Ms Mallika Gadepalli – who discussed actionable steps to achieve greater gender parity in the workplace. MBA participant and co-chair of the event, Vanshika Dixit, was the moderator of the discussion.

The exciting dialogue session covered various themes related to gender parity — biasness in recruitment, increasing automation in women dominated roles, lesser instances of women negotiating for salaries and how the role of men has evolved in achieving greater parity.

MBA participant Lucy Tang shared, "This is a very useful discussion for me, both personally and professionally. It gave me valuable advice on how I can contribute towards creating a gender equal world and a good opportunity to interact with industry leaders".

On an ending note, the panellists agreed upon the way women are more prone to underplaying their own capabilities and how the same is reflected in the way they apply for jobs or negotiate during salary discussions. They highlighted the need for confidence in oneself and exuding the same in every walk of life.

"Collectively, everyone can play a part in creating a gender-equal world, "said the co-chairs.
