Teams from Nanyang Business School (NBS) outdid teams from National University of Singapore and Singapore Management University to bring home the top awards at this year’s Nexia TS Business Case Challenge. The event which began in 2018 aims to nurture local entrepreneurs by supporting aspiring undergraduate students in their entrepreneurship journey.
Entering the case challenge gives students the chance to gather feedback from a panel of entrepreneurs and leading business professionals, receive mentorship from industry experts and professionals as well as get access to entrepreneur role models or professional contacts who can help get their businesses up and running.
Coming in Champion was Meraki Consulting, consisting of Jovan Teo (ACBS, Year 2), Hoo Bing Xu (BUS, Year2), Oh Angela Ray (ACC, Year 2), Sean Tay (BUS, Year 2) and Kok Ying Ferng (ACC, Year 2).
The team shared, “This has been an exciting journey filled with teamwork, commitment and learning. We are immensely grateful for this humbling experience. Without the rigorous training programme that we went through as Year 1 students, and the unwavering support from our seniors and batchmates, we would not have been able to clinch this victory.”
First runner-up Team BikBox – Aidan Ng (BUS, Year 3), David Ian Santoso (ACBS, Year 3), Megan Sim (BUS, Year 3), Foo Chee Hwee (BUS, Year 2) and Eliel Rong'En Simatupang (BUS, Year 3) – was grateful for this experience.
“We learnt the importance of teamwork and to communicate well with one another as the competition was entirely virtual. Everything worked out with a satisfactory outcome!” said the team.
Second runner-up was Excellent Strategy – Wang Jieying (ACBS, Year 2), Wayne Ng (ACBS, Year 2), Charles Teo (ACC, Year 2), Shao Yakun (BCG, Year 2) and Li Yixin (ACBS, Year 2) – which leveraged each other’s strengths and skills to create an impactful presentation.
“This competition opened our eyes to Singapore’s entrepreneurial scene. The judges’ enthusiasm motivated us to continue our pursuit as aspiring entrepreneurs of the future.”
All three winning teams are members of the NBS Business Solutions Case Club. In the spirit of “friendship over competition”, Team BikBox, comprising mostly senior Associates, provided constant support and constructive feedback to other two teams which were made up of newly minted Associates during the course of the challenge – a clear showcase of the strong community at the Business Solutions Case Club. The Club’s training directors also conducted rigorous training sessions, helping the Associates to find their strengths which they leveraged to complete this challenge efficiently.
The teams expressed their gratitude to the judges and staff from Nexia TS – Mr Henry Tan, Mr Sa’at Ismail, Mr Lee Tze Shiong, Ms May Tan, Mr Nicholas Liao and Ms Valerie Teo – for dedicating their precious time to oversee the competition and for generously sharing their valuable experience and knowledge.
